Script Builder

Purpose

Script Builder is the preparation workshop for App Metering. It defines the customer, profile, privacy level, discovery behaviour, catalogue targets, custom targets and collector command.

Practical workflow

Select the customer, name the profile clearly, choose targeted or discovery assisted mode, pick privacy level, add catalogue applications or custom targets, save the profile and deploy the generated command through Intune.

Controls and validation

Validate that the correct customer is scoped, the profile was saved, the collector key is current and the command matches the intended URL and tenant.

Security and compliance

The collector key is an operational secret. If it is exposed, rotate it and redeploy the Intune command.

Common mistakes

Common mistakes are adding targets without saving, using a wrong process name, leaving discovery open permanently or deploying a profile to the wrong Intune group.

Module organisation

Script Builder is now organised into three sub-pages. Overview acts as the cockpit: selected customer, collector status, targeted application count, discovery and script readiness. Collector groups URL, key prefix, expiry, last usage, observations and key rotation. Script Builder contains the editor: profile, mode, privacy, catalogue, discovery candidates, custom targets, copy action and full Intune script download.

The downloaded script is the file to upload to Intune. It embeds the JSON configuration and collector logic, avoiding a manually rebuilt wrapper. Before deployment, replace the key locally if it is shown as a placeholder and confirm the selected customer.
